Gullfoss/The Golden Waterfall

Is one of Iceland’s most iconic and beloved waterfalls, found in the Hvítá river canyon in Southwest Iceland. Gullfoss is two separate waterfalls; the upper one has a drop of 11 meters and the lower one 21 meters. The rock of the river bed was formed during an interglacial period. Water flows over Gullfoss at an average rate of 109 cubic meters per second. The heaviest floods have recorded a flow of 2000 cubic meters per second. During the summer, the flow is 130 cubic meters per second, which would take only 3 seconds to fill this building. People were eager to exploit the power potential of Gullfoss, and many plans for hydroelectric developments on the river Hvítá have been proposed.

Geysir Hot Spring

Geysir is a famous hot spring in the geothermal area of Haukadalur Valley, found in south-west Iceland. It's part of the popular Golden Circle travel route. Though Geysir itself is very rarely active these days, Haukadalur valley boasts a plethora of hot springs and geysers, including the powerful Strokkur, shooting vast jets of boiling water from 65 feet (20 meters) up to 130 feet (40 meters) high. Geysir is much larger, but seconds, minutes, days, weeks, months, years can go by between eruptions here. It is currently in an inactive phase. When it does erupt, the water can shoot up in the air as high as 230 feet (70 meters).
